Project Overview
The project is a repositioning of the existing Newseum which will serve as the home for Johns Hopkins University’s academic programs in Washington, D.C. The property is in a prominent location along Pennsylvania Avenue right down the street from the Capitol building.
Structure: Project scope includes removal and insertion of floor plates, the addition of atrium stairs and bridges, modifications to the building core system due to rearrangement of elevators, and modifications to support a new stone and glass façade system. The demolition of the existing structure will be phased, and temporary shoring installed to support the building loads prior to installation of new structure.
Skin: Addition of shatter-proof film on Bars 2 & 3 glazing.
Building Systems: Core MEP systems including the central chilled water plant, air handling units, and electrical infrastructure are existing to remain with minor modifications as needed to support building loads. Seven elevators not in the primary elevator core are being remodeled while the elevators in the existing elevator core are being demolished and replaced in a new location.
Finishes: Project includes a complete fit-out to include classrooms, library, circulation spaces, theater, conference center, retail, workspaces, offices and collaboration spaces.
