Mass Transportation in Greater Washington DC by some accounts is considered the best overall land transportation in America. Rail, bus, and mobility carry hundreds of thousands of travelers daily throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia in a seamless mode. Often one only sees their destination to and from without considering the mammoth amount of planning, management, labor, outside procurement and cost to deliver world class transportation service.

Md. Washington Minority Companies Association (MWMCA) and its members, associates, and employees understand the importance the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) plays in daily commutes throughout the DC region, and for small, disadvantaged, minority and women-owned businesses that are certified with WMATA.

To infuse new energy in WMATA’s Small Business Programs, WMATA has recruited a veteran in the transportation field, Meshelle M. V. Howard, MCA, as its new Director of Small Business Programs. Meshelle has over 30 years of effective, efficient and results oriented experience in leadership, management, supervision, directing and managing small business programs, performance, and inventory management.

Meshelle is a retired State of Maryland Transportation Industry Leader in coaching, education and advising small, minority, and women-owned businesses on State Certification and contracting opportunities. Meshelle is a United States Army Veteran and participated in three wars serving her country. She is a member and volunteer in several organizations that serve the community and national efforts such as: Catholic Charities, Maryland Public Purchasing Association (MPPA) and The Council of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO).

“Meshelle Howard, comes along at a time when WMATA, an already vital and essential part of DC’s transportation and economic fabric, wants to play an even greater role in strengthening the local small business climate. Her vast experience will enhance procurement to those deserving firms but reporting to top senior management will make it simpler for her to break down contract barriers, scope and amounts to assist small minority business growth. Meshelle is in the right place at the correct time”, said Wayne R. Frazier, President of Md. Washington Minority Companies Association (MWMCA) “We wish her tons of success!”
