Boutique landscape architecture firm acquires Maryland’s oldest practicing landscape architecture firm.
Intreegue Design, Inc., is pleased to announce the purchase of Donovan Feola Balderson (DFB) & Associates, Inc., the oldest practicing landscape architecture firm in Maryland. Colleen Vacelet, Owner and President of Intreegue, has enjoyed collaborating for many years with Andrew Balderson, President of DFB & Associates. She is delighted to continue the legacy of the late Thurman D. Donovan, founder of T.D. Donovan & Associates Inc., which later became DFB & Associates in 1977. The sale was finalized pre-COVID, and after a season of transition, both leaders are now positioned to integrate the partnership publicly.
Since 1955, DFB has won over 30 awards working with a diverse clientele in the greater Washington D.C. region on many notable projects including: Leisure World of Silver Spring, Maryland, Mount Vernon: Ford Orientation Center, Lincoln’s Cottage at the U.S. Soldiers’ Home, Abraham Lincoln sculpture garden at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland College Park, Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins-Baltimore, Maryland, and The New Sibley Hospital.
Ms. Vacelet stated, "[t]he addition of Donovan Feola Balderson & Associates is very strategic for us. This acquisition significantly expands the experience of our firm, but also the industry as a whole. Andy’s knowledge was developed over decades, and will now be passed down to a new generation of eager landscape architects. Working together is another way of continuing the education of our team, preserving a high quality of service, and also the heritage of landscape architecture in Maryland.”
Mr. Balderson added, "We are excited about the prospect of joining Intreegue and believe that this offers many benefits to our clients. We’ll offer access to more in-house services, specialists, and experts for every project. Our combined leadership styles are complementary and we are excited about the opportunity to join together, providing exceptional services to our existing clients." Mr. Balderson will continue as a participating project manager and consulting landscape architect with Vacelet and her team at Intreegue.
Intreegue has been in business since 2013, offering landscape design services for residential, institutional, municipal, and commercial projects. The firm consistently works on a wide range and scale of projects both locally and nationally. Intreegue Design currently manages several high-profile projects of note: two Port Covington buildings in Baltimore, a Nature Education Center in Baltimore City, The William F. Bolger Center in Potomac, multiple projects with Army Navy Country Club and a variety of projects in Napa, California.
Intreegue Design, Inc. is a Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE), providing landscape architecture and site development as well as offering a full suite of services with certified arborists, horticulturists, LEED designers, and Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professionals on staff. Every project is a balanced approach of unique creativity with underlying roots in environmental sensitivity.
