Meet Antonio Griffin, Director of Operations NPL Construction Co.
1. Please tell us about your journey to becoming Director/Area Manager for NPL Construction Company (NPL).
I began working at NPL as a Superintendent in 2010, overseeing main replacement projects and directional drills. I was promoted to General Superintendent in 2013 with the responsibility of managing all of the Superintendents and their work, and now the Director of Operations
2. What types of work does NPL get engaged in?
The Baltimore Division does large gas main replacements, leaks, and corrosion projects for BGE and special projects that may occur.
3. What is your role as Director/Area Manager?
Directing, organizing, and controlling business and administrative activities within the area.
4. Do you see a future for young African American men and women in the construction side of the underground utility industry, and why? If so, what must they do to prepare?
Yes, because when I began thirty years ago, there were very few, if any, African American men or women leaders in the underground utility industry. African Americans now feel they are worthy and are on an equal playing field and accepting of the opportunities, education, and training offered now. The gist of it is you can do whatever you want in life if you have the desire to go after it.
