Meet Ash Shetty, Montgomery County’s Director of Office of Procurement
Montgomery County, Maryland has become Maryland’s shining star for its rainbow of ethnic, gender and racial diversity. The county also has the distinction of being the wealthiest in terms of personal individual income per capita and the largest jurisdiction in Maryland’s spending budget. In essence, Maryland is very fortunate to house Montgomery County within its borders for those reasons and much more.
Montgomery County Executive, Marc Elrich, recently elected in 2018, made a wise decision appointing Ash Shetty as the county’s new Chief Procurement Officer and Director of Office of Procurement. Ash is tasked with overseeing a team of almost 40 procurement and compliance professionals that works on the acquisition of goods and services for the County Government using a wide variety of purchasing methods and procedures. HIs team manages a portfolio of more than 2,600 contracts with public funds exceeding $5 billion dollars. The Office of Procurement integrates compliance and other regulatory requirements into procurement operations across approximately 34 departments.
Ash, a Montgomery County resident, formerly worked for Gantner as Vice President. At Gantner, he worked with Chief Procurement Officers and their teams to address critical functional challenges. Prior to working at Gartner, Ash was a Senior Consultant at Ernst and Young. Ash received a degree in Business Administration from Georgetown University and studied International Management at University of Oxford.

Ash Shetty brings an entrepreneurial spirit backed by principals of inclusive procurement practices. He manages a large budget, a large group of professionals and believes the county can achieve economic inclusion without costing the county taxpayers more. Ash is the new generation of diverse procurement leaders and has a passion to succeed and remain inclusive. We are fortunate to have him here in Maryland,” said Wayne R. Frazier, president of Md. Washington Minority Companies Association.
