Layli Pietri, Minority Business Development Director, Balfour Beatty

As Balfour Beatty’s Minority Business Development Director, Layli oversees compliance with local, state and federal subcontracting programs.  She brings 29 years of construction experience with Balfour Beatty, from project accounting on the jobsite, purchasing roles,  and her current responsibilities to oversee the supplier diversity program.  Her duties include establishing standard operating procedures to help maximize diversity spend; maintaining an in-house database of diverse businesses; training estimating, project management and purchasing personnel on the importance of maximizing participation, and the proper procedures for including diverse businesses.  Layli’s duties also include arranging outreach events or attendance of events within the community to identify new subcontractors and suppliers and build long term relationships and identifying federal contracting opportunities.

In 2022 Layli was recognized by Construction Dive as a Construction Champion Mentor, selected for her effort in helping others break into the industry. 

 

She was Nationally recognized with a leadership award by the Society of American Military Engineers for her work on the Small Business Council. 

 

Layli also was invited to participate with senior leaders from academia, industry, professional societies, and government with the White House Forum on Excellence and Innovation through Diversity in the STEM Workforce in Washington, D.C from 2015-2017,  which facilitated a discussion on how to change the conversation around inclusion of under-represented groups in STEM to focus on achieving greater excellence, productivity and innovation through diversity.
