Md. Washington Minority Companies Association (MWMCA) is pleased and very proud to honor Gregory Slater, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) as our 2020 Best Government Administrator of the Year for Minority Business Enterprise. Mr. Slater is Maryland’s 16th transportation secretary since its inception in July 1971. Slater oversees operations for all of Maryland’s transportation systems including: The Port of Baltimore, highways, aviation, motor vehicle, transit, and toll facilities. Additionally, Mr. Slater is responsible for Maryland’s Office of Minority Business Enterprise. Collectively, these systems employ over 10,000 dedicated workers with an annual operating budget in excess of $5.4 billion.
MWMCA selected Gregory Slater because of his superior dedication to delivering the best transportation resources to Marylanders, coupled with his concern for the advancement of minority and women-owned business enterprises (M/WBE). “With so many pressing daily tasks to address, Slater always finds time to address concessionaire concerns from hard working M/WBEs. It is that type of compassion that separates him from other government leaders. In addition, Slater is also a great orator which enables him to gain consensus from the people he manages, as well as everyday customers of Maryland’s mass transit systems. Governor Hogan made the right selection in promoting Gregory Slater to lead MDOT,” said Wayne R. Frazier, Sr., president of MWMCA.
