Greater Baltimore Committee Opens Nominations Period for Annual Bridging the Gap Achievement Awards

The Greater Baltimore Committee has opened the nomination period for its 2021 Bridging the Gap Achievement Awards, which are issued annually to recognize minority and women-owned businesses and majority businesses and executives that partner with them.

This year's award categories are:

• Successful minority or women-owned business
• Innovative partnership or strategic alliance
• Diversity in Leadership
• Community Impact
• Mentorship

In addition, the GBC will honor a recipient with the Elijah E. Cummings Leadership in Diversity Award, which is given to an organization or individual that has demonstrated solid professional success, commitment to supporting women and minorities in business, and dedication to the community.

"It is important to recognize minority and women-owned businesses as they are vital for an economy to thrive," said Donald C. Fry, President and CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee. "The growth and vibrancy of minority and women-owned businesses contribute to the health of a region's economy and they bring valuable new ideas, new perspectives and new job opportunities to the regional economy. The GBC looks forward to recognizing this year’s nominees and winners."
 
Award nominations should be submitted on the GBC website by September 13, 2021.

Award winners will be announced at the annual Bridging the Gap Achievement Awards on November 10, 8-10 a.m. The location for this in-person event will be announced at a later date.

Started in 2003, the GBC's Bridging the Gap initiative is dedicated to evolving the business culture of Greater Baltimore by developing and fostering relationships between majority, minority, and women-owned businesses. In addition to promoting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all organizations, the Bridging the Gap initiative provides targeted support and programming to help minority and women-owned businesses in Greater Baltimore succeed and grow.

Each year, through the Bridging the Gap Achievement Awards, the GBC recognizes exceptional minority, women-owned, majority businesses and executives who nurture the development of minority and women-owned businesses in Greater Baltimore and Maryland.
